Vietnamese Catholic Association
More than four years ago, the Vietnamese Catholic Association of St. Victor (VICA) was formed to help the growing number of Vietnamese parishioners take care of their needs and to see how they can become more active in the life of the parish. One of its first activities was to help take care of a food booth for the festival. Another activity recently encouraged by the parish and gladly undertaken by the association was to commemorate the 117 Vietnamese martyrs (canonized by Pope John Paul 11 in 1989) on Sunday, November 24th of last year. It is hoped that this event will be observed yearly on a Sunday nearest the official date of the feast (November 24th). VICA also had celebrated the Tet Lunar New Year on one occasion, but the this practice was discontinued.
The present spiritual activities of the Vietnamese Catholic Association are two prayer group meetings, one on every Friday evening at 7:30 p. m, held at private houses to be rotated among group members, and one every First Saturday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the De La Salle Chapel of the Vietnamese Brothers of the Christian Schools at 248 Kirk Avenue, San Jose CA 95127. Anybody can join the Association, but especially Vietnamese or those who can understand or speak Vietnamese. Besides the regular prayer meetings, the Association holds only special meetings to cope with extraordinary activities as they may come.
